Today is World Environment Day.
This opportunity for reflection on the Earth and it's systems that support all life occurs on June 5th each year.
Wonderful news has been received acknowledging the work for sustainability and the environment that is ongoing at Merici.
The ACT Environmental Grants Program helps to strengthen community participation and engagement in environmental projects through community led initiatives.
This Program has offered the Merici College Biodiversity Restoration Project a grant of $23,800 to assist with the expansion of the existing project which is aimed at rewilding a section of the oval along Wise Street with species from the Yellow Box-Blakely's Red Gum Grassy Woodland, one of Canberra's key ecosystems.
It is hoped that this fragment of vegetation, once established, will provide connectivity across the landscape between Black Mountain and Mount Ainslie.
Thank you so much to Minister Vassarotti, the ACT Environmental Grants Program, Alice Hathorn from the ACT Urban Woodland Rescue and the team at Merici.
