Merici College Green Tip #14 – International Day of Biodiversity

Sustainability at Merici

May 22nd is International Day of Biodiversity.

Biodiversity is the living fabric of our planet. It underpins human wellbeing – health, food supply and the economy.

The rapid decline of biodiversity therefore threatens nature and people alike.

According to the Global Assessment Report on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (2019), human activities are responsible for the loss of 75% of biodiversity in terrestrial ecosystems.

Enjoy these photos from the Merici Biodiversity Restoration Project which aims to restore a fragment of the local ecosystem.

Be inspired to plant something in your own garden from the Yellow Box Blakely’s Red Gum Grassy Woodland ecosystem!
