At the ACT Schools Climate Conference last week we learned that Canberrans generate ONE MILLION TONNES OF WASTE PER YEAR.
Of this 30% goes to landfill. That’s 330 000 tonnes per year. Every year. Shocking!
This Easter, please refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle and repurpose.
You can start with saving all of your Easter egg foil, scrunching it into a ball about the size of an orange, and then put it into your yellow lid bin.
Aluminium is particularly well suited to recycling as 100% can be recovered in the recycling process.
Re-melting used aluminium saves up to 95% of the energy needed to produce the primary product and reduces the environmental impacts of bauxite mining.
Aluminium cans, packaging and foil can be recycled through kerbside recycling collections.
