17 March is the “National Close the Gap Day” in Australia. For more than a decade now, Australians from every corner of the country, in schools, businesses and community groups, have shown their support for Close the Gap by marking National Close the Gap Day on the third Thursday of March each year. This National Close the Gap Day, we have an opportunity to send our governments a clear message that Australians value health equality as a fundamental right for all. Join us in demanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health equality within a generation. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples still live, on average, 10-11 years less than non-Indigenous Australians. Closing the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander life expectancy gap is everyone’s business: it is a national issue in which every individual, organisation and group in Australia can play a role. We would like to thank our students and staff for joining our Narragunnawali Mob in the Indigenous Garden at recess and lunch to add their handprint to our banner of support.
