Merici College Student Achievements at Canberra Show

Maria Georgiadis, Year 12 student, awarded Champion for Sewing

Congratulations to all our students who entered their work for displays at the Canberra Show. All the entries were exceptional and we thank you for your dedication to your studies of Textiles and Fashion at Merici College. We would also like to thank over 40 students who volunteered to help at the Show, through the exceptional organisation and support of Maria Georgiadis, Year 12 students. All our students were wonderful ambassadors for Merici College and eagerly supporting and assisted at stalls.

We would like to also celebrate the successes of the following students and congratulate the students on the achievements:

  • Jacinta Ffrench won first prize in Student Quilting/Patchwork section for her patchwork tote.
  • Alexandra Barham’s patchwork tote came second in this same section,
  • Emily McGrath’s recycled fabric bucket hat came first in her U18 sewing section and also won reserve show champion, Emily’s dreaming doll, created in Art, won second prize in the u18 Miscellaneous Art section.
  • Sesadi Giragama’s doll won first prize in this section and ‘student champion’.
  • Rebecca Price’s impressive recycled fabric puff quilt weighed over 7kg and won first prize in an Open Special challenge for any piece made from recycled materials, and earned her reserve show champion for this piece.
  • Amy Hants (Y12, 2022)’s coral-inspired recycled blanket ensemble won second prize in the same section.
  • Leah Thewlis (Y12, 2022) also won a Highly Commended in the student Recycle and Repurpose section for her upcycled denim jacket with recycled plastic details.
