Merici College Green Tip #29 – Leaves and Canberra’s Waterways

Fallen leaves can significantly impact water quality by releasing nutrients during decomposition, leading to issues including algal blooms and eutrophication.

Algal blooms deplete oxygen in the water, harming aquatic life including fish and other organisms.

Last Friday the SAM team collected deciduous leaves on campus to ensure these leaves are composted and don’t end up in our waterways.

This important action that will contribute to our Water Accreditation with the Sustainable Schools program.

Thanks SAM girls!

We can all help with protecting our waterways.
