Meric College Green Tip #20 -Greening up Christmas!

It is also a time of excessive waste and increased environmental impact. In fact Australians generate 30% more waste at this time of year.

At this time of year Christmas is front of mind. It is also a time of excessive waste and increased environmental impact. In fact Australians generate 30% more waste at this time of year.

To reduce waste you may wish to consider:

  1. Gifting experiences instead of items – tickets and gift vouchers to movies, theatre, a concert, massage, a class, a pedicure….use your imagination!
  2. Packaging – use recycled paper, re-usable fabrics – get creative!
  3. Food waste – only buy what you need, compost fruit and vegetable scraps or use a worm farm for all food.  How about a worm farm for a useful Christmas present!
  4. Recycle glass, plastics, foil, cans and paper packaging

As always, please Reconsider, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in your purchasing decisions.
