2023 has been a year of wonderful expansive endeavours for Inclusive Education at Merici College. With the ever-growing team of professionals, we have seen The Hub, our central location, become a consistent hive of activity for students from across all year groups needing additional support. This space houses many varying aspects of improving learning for students.

Inclusive Education Coordinator

Health and Physical Education (HPE) in 2023 brings a renewed vibe, a new Studies Coordinator, Ms. Kylie Olsthoorn, and at the end of the first term we said farewell to Ms. Jenna Fisher and welcomed Mr. Tristan Beltrame permanently into the HPE team.

This year, our students were out and about on a range of excursions to enrich their study of humanities and social sciences. We visited museums, parliaments and went on field trips in our local area and well beyond.

As English teachers at Merici College, we believe the best way that we can empower independence is to provide our students with a foundation of literacy through language and literature. It is through this study of English that we hope to guide our students as they uncover their own perspectives and develop the confidence to express themselves authentically. As such, one of our primary goals is to support our students in finding their own voice.

Today we gathered to celebrate the end of the academic calendar in a year of challenges, joys and the building of a culture that celebrates and nurtures an inclusive and vibrant community. We also take this opportunity to recognise the successes, strength, resilience and passion exhibited by our young women in 2023. So much has been achieved, both academically and more broadly, by our students who have had the courage to serve our community whilst honouring their own dreams and capabilities.

Today our Year 7 RE classes are running stalls to raise funds for the St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal. Each class has made craft items to sell and baked lots of delicious cupcakes and cookies. Student craft items have included Christmas decorations and other small gifts suitable for Christmas. Your handmade items look amazing! #communitas
