As part of World Environment Day and our week of War on Waste, Merici College held a ‘whole school' Clean Up Australia by Houses today. We would like to thank the students for supporting this important event.
OzClo (The Australian Computational and Linguistics Olympiad) is an annual competition that challenges high school students to develop their own strategies for solving problems in fascinating real languages. Merici College entered a total of 9 senior and junior teams this year. Six teams achieved Bronze, two teams attained Silver and one team was awarded Gold.
Congratulations girls!
On Friday 31 May, College staff and students celebrated the Feast Day of Saint Angela Merici. A special College community Mass was also held, celebrated by Fr Emil Milat and Fr Josh Scott. As this year marks 60 years since the beginning of the College, the Mass reflected on the College’s past, present and future journey from Canberra Catholic Girls’ High School in 1959, to Merici College in 2019 and beyond, with a special focus on the six Houses and the Founding Orders.
In the April school holidays, 14 Merici students visited China for the trip of a lifetime. Accompanied by Mrs Baines and Dr Powell, the group visited Shanghai, Beijing and Xi’an. These are among the world’s biggest cities and some of the most densely populated places on Earth. They are also home to the fascinating culture of China and many World Heritage sites. The students chose to visit China to enrich their study of Chinese Language, History or Hospitality.
Dr Kathryn White, Science Teacher, accompanied students Anna Wearden, Mishal Kamran and Jia Li Norris to the STEM event "I Want To Be Her When I Grow Up" organised by KPMG and hosted by St Clare's College.
We would like to thank our students for supporting our Oz Harvest and Vinnies Can Line today.
Can Line rankings are:
1. Brescia
2. Ningil
3. Penola
4. Seiwa
5. Tullow
6. Balgo
Congratulations Brescia!
It was wonderful to see so many members of our community at our Festival on Saturday 1 June as one of the many faces who have moved through Merici’s doors over the last 60 years. As a future member of the Alumni, it is great to see the College’s connection with ex-students continue to grow.
