Diploma Programme (DP)
September was a key month in our journey towards the International Baccalaureate DP authorisation. We had our IB Consultant from New Zealand visit to check our progress toward compliance with IB standards and processes.
STRATEGIC PLAN 2019 - 2021
Following from the successful implementation of the Merici College Strategic Plan 2016-2018, a new assessment of future needs and objectives is required to ensure a continued commitment to providing a positive and nurturing learning environment that supports our school’s mission and vision for the future.
Mission Statement - Merici challenges you to love life, have hope, be faithful and build futures more wondrous than you dare to dream.”

Year 10 student, Ashlyn Radford, has been selected to attend the Aboriginal Summer School for Excellence in Technology and Science (ASSETS) for their outstanding achievement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Ashlyn is one of only 105 students from across Australia to be selected to attend one of the three summer schools which will take place during December 2018/January 2019.
Following on from our excellent experience last year, Merici was again offered the opportunity to take three students to the 2018 Women in Aviation/Aerospace Australia summit at the National Convention Centre. Emma Howse and Sarah Carstens (Year 10) and Natasha Silver (Year 12) were sponsored by Lockheed Martin and attended with me. Emma and Sarah are part of Merici’s engineering elective and are looking ahead to aerospace-related careers. Natasha aspires to be a pilot and is planning a career in aviation.
THINKERS
We use critical and creative thinking skills to analyse and take responsible action on complex problems. We exercise initiative in making reasoned, ethical decisions.
We congratulate Rosemary Zielinski (Year 11), who this year sat all four of the Australian Science Olympiad exams: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Earth/Environmental Science (EES).
Rosemary placed in the top 50 students in Australia for Physics, Chemistry and EES, and has been invited to the Olympiad Summer School for both Physics and EES. Rosemary has chosen to undertake Physics.
A group of 15 students and 3 accompanying teachers from Tieyi School in Xi’an, China came to Merici College on 31 Aug 2018. This is the first of many activities to build the sister-school relationship between the two schools. The activities which we had for the day were:
- Introduction of Merici College and Tieyi School
- Chinese Folk Music Performance
- Sharing of Australian Snacks and Interaction
- School Tour
It was wonderful meeting the students and staff.
We would like to congratulate our Dance students on their amazing dance performances last night at the Ausdance Dance Fest.
Youth Dance Festival (affectionately known as Dance Fest) is a remarkable Canberra success story and has been proudly presented by Ausdance ACT since 1985. A long-term feature on the Canberra arts and education calendar and now in its 34th year, Dance Fest boasts a second generation of participants, a proud alumni and a strong legacy.
