The Year in English

As English teachers at Merici College, we believe the best way that we can empower independence is to provide our students with a foundation of literacy through language and literature. It is through this study of English that we hope to guide our students as they uncover their own perspectives and develop the confidence to express themselves authentically. As such, one of our primary goals is to support our students in finding their own voice.

International Arts and Culture Day

Year 7 and 8 students had a fun and immersive day experiencing a range of international arts and cultural traditions. We welcomed an Alumni guest speaker from the class of 2002, Esther Sainsbury, and guest presenters for Kung Fu, Latin Dance and Indonesian culture and dance. Students participated in hands-on workshops in the afternoon, gaining an appreciation of cultural significance.

Merici Mentor Program Celebration

On Monday 27 November, our community acknowledged the achievements of our Mentors and Volunteers at a very special afternoon tea. The Mentoring Program continues to be an amazing partnership between the communities of Merici College and Black Mountain School (BMS). The relationship begins in Year 9, with volunteers giving up their time fortnightly for a semester to go over to BMS to work with students with disabilities on their communication skills.
