Merici College Green Tip #23 - National Tree Day

July 31 was National Tree Day and a tree will be planted at Merici next week to celebrate Australia’s largest community tree-planting and nature care event.

Trees are an essential part of Australia's biodiversity.

We need urgently to plant more trees as part of a broader plan for climate action. Discontinuing land clearing is also essential.

So, can you plant a native tree or shrub that is naturally occurring in your area?

Among the many benefits, you may attract more bird visitors!

Merici College Green Tip #22 - Another Plastic Free July tip!

In support of Plastic Free July and for every other month, another easy way to reduce your demand for plastic waste (see image).

This is already happening at Merici where you can buy your beverages from the Canteen in reusable crockery or bring your own cup.

Please consider not bringing off-site disposable, single use cups to campus.

Merici College Green Tip #20 - What can be done with produce stickers?

Unless you are able to buy your fruit and vegetables direct from the source, or your local grower's market, you are likely to come across plastic stickers on your produce.

Good news! They can be recycled!

All you need to do to recycle them is stick them to a bigger piece of soft plastic before you pop it in with the rest of your soft plastic collection and take it to a REDcycle collection bin at Coles next time you shop.

Brundtland Report (WCED, 1987)

This definition emphasises the long-term concept of sustainability and introduces the
