Our International Baccalaureate Journey

As a community, we have been considering the merits of International Baccalaureate (IB) programs in the Merici context since 2016.  Our early investigations found a high level of alignment between the existing Merici Mission and Vision Statement and Principles of Powerful Learning and the IB Mission statement and IB Learner Profiles. The IB’s focus on inquiry learning also reflected Merici’s pedagogical approach to teaching and learning, while providing additional teaching resources and research-based support underpinning the programs.

Green Tip #12 Eating Seasonal Produce

Did you know that eating seasonal produce is better for your wallet, the environment and your health?

Your wallet: Seasonal produce is cheaper because the costs of producing it are lower (because plants require less time, labour and intervention from humans to grow efficiently when the season is on their side!).

The environment: Eating fruits and vegetables that are in season locally means that food doesn’t have to travel as far to get on your plate, reducing the emissions associated with transporting that produce.
