Merici College Green Tip #18 - More about oceans!

While preparing last week's Green Tip for World Ocean Day, I came across so much interesting information that a sequel is necessary!

Healthy, productive oceans are essential for food, jobs, and the economy.

In addition to keeping the planet cool,

1. Oceans provide 50-70% of our oxygen

2. Oceans also absorb carbon dioxide

3. Oceans assist with climate regulation

4. Oceans provide economic benefits and jobs for millions of people

Merici College Green Tip #17 - World Ocean Day

The United Nations celebrates World Ocean Day on June 8.

This year’s theme, The Ocean: Life & Livelihoods, highlights the wonder of the ocean and how it is our life source, supporting humanity and every other organism on earth.

While critically important to humanity and all species, oceans are also fragile.

Oceans are an asset we must look after for the sake of all life and livelihoods.

St Angela Merici Day and Christian Service Awards

The celebration of the Feast Day of Saint Angela Merici was an important celebration in recognition of our Patron Saint Angela Merici, our Founding Orders and our College Houses.  The day commenced with a very special Mass. Fr Emil presented an inspirational homily, recognising the love and unity of the community of Merici College.

In memory of Christine Collins

It is with deepest sadness that today the Merici College Community mourns the passing today of our dear sister - Christine Collins.

Christine was a valued Support Staff member in Catholic Education in Canberra-Goulburn Diocese. She started with humble beginnings, working in the text-book room at Merici College back in 1991. Over the years, Christine moved around various sections of Administration and eventually to the Finance Office, initially as a Finance Clerk, where she was quickly promoted into the role of Finance Manager, a position she has held for the past 10 years.
