Sports Awards 2019

2019 was another busy year for Merici College Sport. We had many teams compete at North High School and ACT School Sport events in sports such as athletics, swimming, cross country, soccer, AFL, cricket, hockey, netball, volleyball, touch football, soccer, ultimate frisbee, softball, golf, snow and oztag.

As well as these one-day events, Merici entered teams in volleyball, netball, sailing, rowing, softball, basketball and snow sports as co-curricular weekend activities.

Student Achievement - Eleanor Coleman awarded the Audrey Fagan Young Women's Grant

Congratulations to Merici College Eleanor Coleman, Year 11 who was awarded the Audrey Fagan's Enrichment Grant, presented to her by the ACT Minister for Women Yvette Berry. The Audrey Fagan Young Women’s Enrichment Grants highlight the ACT Government’s commitment to the development of opportunities for young women. This supports the Government’s efforts in creating a community where women are safe, healthy, equally represented, and valued for their contribution to society.

NEXT STEPS FOR THE IB MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME

What is the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) Personal Project?

The Personal Project is one of the most exciting parts of the IB MYP journey. It is mostly completed in Year 10 (from 2021) and involves students synthesising their learning and skills from the MYP to develop a project that they are passionate about that uses a process of inquiry and reflection. Students define goals based on personal interests, they develop a set of success criteria to evaluate themselves against while reflecting on the process.

Principal's Blog - Adolescent Mental Health and Wellbeing

In my six years as a Principal, I have been troubled by the rise in the number of students diagnosed with mental health issues.  Only yesterday, an article in our local paper highlighted that 1 in 4 students were struggling with a mental health issue and 1 in 7 students has had an episode in the past 12 months.

Anxiety, stress, relationship conflict, body image, grief, addiction and suicidal ideation – all are on the rise.
