What is the IB MYP Personal Project?

Have you ever wanted to plan a caravan trip around Australia, write a play, build a robot or direct a short film? Students in the Middle Years Programme (MYP) at Merici will have such an opportunity at the end of Year 9 and throughout Year 10 when they pursue a passion of their choice also known as the personal project. This will happen over an extended period of time so students should be ambitious with their ideas! All students will be assigned a supervisor, whose role is to act as a mentor; providing support and guidance throughout the experience.

Merici College Green Tip #5 - Not all chocolate is the same!

When thinking of Easter eggs, there are some that are better than others...

Around 70% of the chocolate we consume comes from West Africa, where it's estimated that more than two million children and young people under the age of 18 work as labourers in cocoa harvesting. Some of these children are trafficked; many are working under harmful labour conditions. And it's the cocoa they produce that ends up in the chocolate we eat.

Be part of the solution and look for chocolate that is certified by the Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade or UTZ.

A Day with Dr Justin Coulson

Merici College would like to thank Dr Justin Coulson's Happy Families for his visit to the College yesterday. Justin spoke to our Year 12 students about overcoming the 3 Ds - doubt, distraction and drudgery, telling them that doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will. He suggested that the way to overcome self-doubt is to decide. He also spent time with our Year 8 students, talking to them about respectful relationships.

Staff Achievement - Gerard Ryan awarded SSACT Council Chair Award
