Congratulations to all Merici College students and staff for participating in the 2017 Earth Hour. At the ACT Government’s Sustainable School Program Awards Ceremony on Thursday 18 May, Minister Shane Rattenbury MLA awarded our College 1st place for our participation in Earth Hour. In particular, Minister Rattenbury acknowledged our efforts in conserving energy and engaging the community through the various activities organised on the day. Specifically, our interactive art installation of a light globe, where students and staff alike pledged to reduce their ecological footprint.

DID YOU KNOW …
FOR HEATING SYSTEMS TO REACH THEIR MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY, THEY SHOULD BE SET BETWEEN 19 AND 23 DEGREES.
As the Canberra chill starts to set up, keep this in mind (for your pockets, the planet and your comfort).

"This was such a wonderful time to thank our mums and grandmas for their constant love and support" Roisin Moore, 2017 School Captain
On the morning of Monday 15 May, our College was honoured by the presence of the mothers and grandmothers of our girls. It was a wonderful opportunity for our community to celebrate Mothers’ Day with a very special Prayer and Breakfast. We were overwhelmed by the number of mums and grandmas who arrived at school with their daughters and grand-daughters. Throughout the liturgy, students wrote messages of thanks, appreciation and love to their mums and grand-mothers; recognising the important role they play in their lives.
Here is our green tip for the week:

Over the past 2 weeks, students of Balgo House have been continuing to work in partnership with the Sisters of Mercy, Sr Frances and Sr Angela. To continue with Balgo’s willingness to give to others, Sr Angela and Sr Frances asked if we would be able to collect some small items to contribute to 10 gifts for some refugees from Iraq, for Mother’s Day this weekend. During a Friday morning assembly, Sr Angela and Sr Frances came in to meet with Balgo House to receive the gifts.
The Career Expo is designed for all Year 9 to Year 12 students and their parents are actively encouraged to attend. It is at this time that the girls can begin to gain an understanding of the extensive variety of courses that are available from all the major institutions within the ACT and surrounding regions. We would like to thank all our special guests and presenters for providing insightful advice to our students thinking about entering their respective career.
