Here are some tips for managing Easter waste sustainably!
You can recycle your Easter egg foil and any cardboard packaging. Hot cross bun packaging and other soft plastic can’t go in the Yellow bin, but you can drop it off at your local Coles or Woolies and place in the soft plastics recycling bin.
On Thursday 29 March, the Merici College community reflected on the significance of Easter by exploring the Stations of the Cross and other important aspects of Holy Week in the Easter Liturgy. The liturgy was completely student-focussed with approximately 50 students leading all elements. We wish our community a very Holy and safe Easter.
We congratulate Caitlin Figueiredo (ACT Young Woman of the Year) and Ashleigh Streeter-Jones (ACT Woman of the Year) on being named Forbes 30 Under 30 for their work on parliamentary gender equality.
We would like to thank the Merici community for attending our BBQ on Wednesday 28 March. It was great to see so many students, parents, staff and community members attending. Particular thanks and appreciation is extended to our Canteen amd Hospitality staff and students who prepared an amazing meal.
Merici Student and Teacher awarded the Simpson Prize 2018
We are delighted to announce that Samantha Elise Trafford (Year 10) has been selected as the Simpson Prize 2018 winner for the Australian Capital Territory. Many outstanding entries were submitted to the competition and Samantha is to be congratulated on this achievement.
We would like to thank all our students on their participation at our Athletics Carnival. The day was a great success!
We have had another great week in debating with five big wins.
Our Year 8 team (Alyssia Borgia, Isabelle Dunn and Anna Mels) defeated Girls Grammar arguing ‘that Australia should become a republic’.
Our second Year 8 team (Pragnya Gupta, Lana Dexter and Stephanie Frater) defeated Canberra Grammar successfully arguing ‘that Australia should become a republic’.
Our Year 10 team (Lily Alexander, Aislinn McArdle and Samantha Trafford) defeated Burgmann arguing ‘that Maths should not be compulsory for Years 11 and 12’.

Year 8 Field Trip to Tidbinbilla yesterday provided students with the opportunity to broaden their study of the Australian landscape, develop fieldwork skills in the collection of data and record their observations during the visit.
