Merici College Green Tip #31: Will climate change affect you?

According to the image above, if you live anywhere in Australia, you will be affected by climate change induced water stress in the form of droughts or floods.

Already across much of Australia, devastating drought and floods have occurred in recent years.

The water crisis will impact the most populated regions of the world by 2040.

@MericiMoment Class of 1983 40th anniversary

The Class of 1983 celebrates 40 years since their graduation this year. In 1983 the school was renamed Merici College, previously named Braddon Catholic Girls' High. The uniform was the fawn dress with maroon tie and maroon skirt or trousers and fawn blouses in winter. The Year 11 and 12 girls wore mauve shirts and were known as the 'purple shirts'. In 1977 a policy change saw the school become co-educational. A number of boys enrolled but, by the time the year commenced, the decision had been reversed. The boys who had already enrolled were permitted to remain despite this policy shift.

Year 10 Transitions Forum and Reflection Day

During Week 10 of Term 2, our Year 10 students attended their 2023 Transitions Forum. This was an important week for Year 10 as students considered how to make decisions, reflected on what is important in life, prepared for senior study, and much more.

Throughout the week the students participated in ‘Day of Hope’ on Monday which was a full day presentation with Glenn Gerreyn from the Hopeful Institute, Sydney. He concentrated on goals and motivation and had students on the edge of their seats with his inspirational words.

Merici College Green Tip #20 - What is Sustainability?

What is Sustainability?

While carbon emissions reduction is significant in promoting sustainability, sustainability itself is much broader.

It encompasses environmental, economic, and social aspects of life, with separate attention to every component in order to foster sustainability and long-term development while preserving a healthy planet for generations to come.

Merici College Vinnies Sleepout 2023

A huge thanks to all our students and staff who participated in the Vinnies School Sleepout last night. It was a night of solidarity and compassion where our girls braved the cold and wet weather. By 'sleeping out' the girls helped to raise awareness and support for the homeless in our community. We would like to extend our special thanks and appreciation to Teah, one of the Vinnies School Engagement workers for her presentation on homelessness and supporting the girls throughout the night!

Merici College Green Tip #19 - - It can be done. It must be done.

These are the words of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

In essence, the IPCC acknowledges that the world is in deep trouble on climate change, but that we CAN turn it around.

The synthesis report confirms humans are unequivocally increasing greenhouse gas emissions to record levels. Global temperatures are now 1.1℃ above pre-industrial levels and are likely to reach 1.5℃ above pre-industrial levels in the early 2030s.
