Student Selection - Wingara Mura – Bunga Barrabugu Summer Program

We congratulate Eleanor Coleman, Year 10, on being selected to participate in the Years 10, 11 and 12 Wingara Mura – Bunga Barrabugu Summer Program held at Sydney University. Eleanor will stay on-campus, access university facilities and meet current university students. The Summer Program will provide Eleanor with useful skills for her final years at Merici College and allow her to explore options for university and careers.

It is an opportunity for Eleanor to investigate a subject area of her choice which include:

October is Mental Health Month

Since starting my position at Merici College I have endeavoured to be a strong advocate and spokesperson for the mental health and wellbeing of young people.

October is the perfect time to raise aware of mental illness, reduce the stigma of people living with or caring for people with mental illness and promote positive strategies and activities, along with agencies that are there to help mental health and wellbeing in our community.

Merici College Student Selected for STEM Summer School

Year 10 student, Ashlyn Radford, has been selected to attend the Aboriginal Summer School for Excellence in Technology and Science (ASSETS) for their outstanding achievement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Ashlyn is one of only 105 students from across Australia to be selected to attend one of the three summer schools which will take place during December 2018/January 2019.

Student Reflections - Women in Aviation Camp

From the 24-27th September, the RAAF Women in Aviation Flight Camp was held at East Sale RAAF base in Victoria. The camp participants were 16 young women from 16-24 years of age, coming from all over the country to experience life in the Air Force.  Two Merici students, Jade Esler and Grace Howse participated in the camp and have offered their reflection on their experiences.

Women in Aviation/Aerospace Australia Summit

Following on from our excellent experience last year, Merici was again offered the opportunity to take three students to the 2018 Women in Aviation/Aerospace Australia summit at the National Convention Centre. Emma Howse and Sarah Carstens (Year 10) and Natasha Silver (Year 12) were sponsored by Lockheed Martin and attended with me.  Emma and Sarah are part of Merici’s engineering elective and are looking ahead to aerospace-related careers.  Natasha aspires to be a pilot and is planning a career in aviation.
