Year 12 Farewell Assembly 2017

2017 Year 12 gift to Merici College

To the graduating class of 2017, on behalf of your teachers, staff and students of Merici College..congratulations. As you embark on the next stage of your journey, remember the 800+ days you have spent here at Merici with fondness. You've listened and learnt, represented the College at various functions, completed assessments, played in sporting teams, sat exams, participated in events, fundraised for charities, celebrated successes, performed at school and community events, given hours and hours in Christian Service to others, cried together and prayed as a community.

Today I want to thank two wonderful young women who have lead the College. Thank you Roisin Moore and Dana Ryan. I have appreciated your enthusiasm for life and vision for the future. You have been great ambassadrs. Well done and congratulations. Thank you also to our 2017 Captains. I have valued your generous spirit and the gusto you have instilled in your teams and Houses.

So today, we take this opportunity to give thanks for the class of 2017 and for the many talents they have brought to our school community. Learn to trust the journey ahead, even when you do not understand it. Knowing that at times the journey will be tougher than you can ever imagine and it will have times of joy tinged with thoughts of sadness, times of triumph tinged with defeat and times of success tinged with elements of failure. A person who never makes any mistakes - never tries anything new and let's face it - all great things are discovered through making mistakes, trying again and working towards something that is good for everyone."  Loretta Wholley

During the assembly we acknowledged the commitment that all students have shown towards the Christian Service Program. We congratulate the students in Year 11 and 12 who received Christian Service Learning Program awards for 50 hours (Blue Angel Award), 100 hours (Red Angel Award) and 150 hours (Gold Angel Award) of completed Christian Service. Special congratulations are extended to Ally Howe of Year 12 Seiwa House who was also presented with the St Angela Merici Award; the second recipient of this award since the program’s inception three years ago. To be considered for this award, a student must have achieved a combined total of 150 points across 2 categories – from the following 4 areas of the College; Sport, Co-curricular, Cultural and Academic, in addition to their Gold Angel Award of 150 hours of Christian Service. The recipient must also have attended all major Liturgical events and community days.

In addition, we congratulate Balgo House who was awarded the College Cup for 2017.

In concluding the assembly, the Year 12 students presented a special gift to the school community; a metal artwork representing St Angela Merici. The girls processed out of the assembly proudly singing the school song.
