Year 12 COVID-19 Vaccination Program

Students are invited to book to receive their first vaccine between 6 September to 17 September 2021 at the AIS Arena COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic.

Dear Parents, Carers and Year 12 students

The ACT Government has announced that year 12 students have been prioritised for the  COVID-19 vaccination.

This year continues to be a challenging time for our families and students as we all strive to support our young people to complete their schooling journey. As parents and carers, you understand how significant having the opportunity to complete senior secondary studies is to year 12 students. This includes practical assessments and AST tests.

It is important that every effort and precaution is taken so these assessments can proceed as safely as possible for students and staff. This includes ensuring students and support staff can be vaccinated as soon as possible.

The ACT Government has announced that year 12 students have been prioritised for receiving the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.  I am also writing directly to students about this opportunity.

The opportunity to be vaccinated against COVID-19 will make sure students have some level of protection against COVID-19 before the start of term 4 and when they undertake their assessments. Priority COVID-19 vaccination appointments are also available to staff who will be supervising the assessments, including the AST exams.

Students are invited to book to receive their first vaccine between 6 September to 17 September 2021 at the AIS Arena COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic. COVID-19 vaccines are free and are available regardless of Medicare or visa status.

The year 12 student priority COVID-19 bookings can only be made by calling the ACT COVID-19 vaccination booking line on 02 5124 7700 (7am to 7pm daily). Your young person will need to answer some questions to confirm their eligibility. You can assist your young person to make the booking or make it on their behalf, if you are their legal guardian.

Please call so that you can get a priority vaccination appointment within the next two weeks. Students who have already booked an appointment for a vaccination can move their appointment forward by calling the COVID-19 vaccination booking line.

You can also choose to get your Pfizer vaccination at a participating GP, who have been asked to prioritise year 12 students. This might suit students with additional needs or who find it hard to access AIS. The Australian Government’s Eligibility Checker is useful for finding and booking at nearby participating GP clinics.

Free public transport on bus and light rail is available for anyone travelling to the AIS Arena COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic. Proof of the COVID-19 vaccination booking will need to be shown upon request. Parents, carers and family accompanying people to their COVID-19 vaccination are also able to travel for free.

I have attached is a Factsheet and for more information please visit the COVID-19 website: www.covid19.act.gov.au/vaccine. The Education Directorate website also provides information including answers to a number of frequently asked questions.
