WELCOME MESSAGE FROM OUR CAPTAINS
Numerologists widely believe the number 23 to be associated with the planet Uranus; a planet which is believed by astrology enthusiasts to represent change, innovation, and progress. Others believe the number 23 to be a sign from angels, a message from the divine. Our research, in conjunction with the brilliant leadership team and the wonderful Merici staff and students, hints at one thing; 2023 is going to be a fabulous year to remember.
Welcome Merici College sisters, parents and staff to our new 2023 College year! We are Tilly and Raechel, your average dog lovers, local chocolate addicts, and hardcore Taylor Swift fans. But, most excitingly, we are also your College Captains for 2023! We are thrilled to be your Captains, big sisters, and hype women for the next 12 months, exploring and working with our College theme of Communitas (Latin for community). We would like to welcome the new students and staff joining our Merici community this year and our returning Merici sisters. We are so happy to have you here!
We believe school should always feel like a safe space, so it is our mission that in 2023, each and every student feels loved, cared for, and appreciated within our College community. To us, the theme of Communitas means fostering a space at the College that can act as a support system and also a tool for personal growth. We want to encourage each one of the incredible girls going into the new school year to connect with the people around them. Join a club, reach out to someone different in your PC or classes, or simply smile as you pass other people in the hallways! Everyone should aim to be connected in our school, as part of a singular community that binds us together.
Community has always been a focus of the College and the glue that binds us together, even when we go through pandemics, natural disasters and pesky fire alarms. In the next 12 months we want to lead by example and demonstrate the community spirit our College is known for by creating more opportunities for connection and collaboration within the community. Through this sense of community, we aim to empower the brilliant young women that are the Merici girls, by demonstrating just how great of an impact women can have on the world. Merici College empowers women to love life, have hope, be faithful and build futures more wondrous than they dare to dream, and we hope 2023 is the year this mission statement is both fully embraced and embodied more than ever before.
Like Taylor Swift said, let’s dive into 2023 “head first, fearless”, with excitement and hope about what the year will bring, and what the future holds. We look forward to getting to know each of you and creating our own sense of communitas with you all this year!
