Eternal rest, grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God; rest in peace. Amen

Funeral arrangements for Christine (Chris) Fraser, former teacher of Merici College

A celebration of Chris’s life will take place at St Monica’s Catholic Church, 18 Defell Street Evatt on Saturday 1 February, 2020 commencing at 11am. Current and past students are invited to form a guard of honour at the conclusion of the Mass. Current students are also invited to wear their Summer Merici College uniform to the service. We strongly advise parents/guardians to accompany their daughter(s).

Refreshments will be provided afterwards. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ovarian Cancer Australia. Envelopes will be available at the service, or can be made online at www.ovariancancer.net.au/donate/. Because this is a celebration of Chris’ life, the family would prefer that clothing worn be bright and colourful.

Christine (Chris) Fraser started teaching at Merici College in 1985 and in the years since has shown herself to be an exemplary teacher. Chris taught in variety of subjects, including English, History, Religious Education, Integrated Humanities, Year 7 – 10 Maths, Drama, Leisure Education and Economics. Her time at Merici College has spanned several decades and clearly Chris has proven herself able to adapt to the many technological and curricular changes that have taken place in those years. Some of these changes have included the introduction of the Laptop Programme, cross curriculum perspectives, the introduction of the Australian Curriculum and the introduction of Civics, Citizenship and Economics into the Integrated Humanities programme. Chris focussed on supporting students with their literacy, she was passionate about students learning and their ability to think critically. She was a great believer in experiential learning and loved the historical dress ups for the Ancient History days. Chris was a caring and compassionate Pastoral Care Teacher originally in Ningil, then Balgo.

In her spare time Chris was dedicated to tennis, representing the ACT in the Veteran Australian Championships in Perth and other cities in Australia.  Chris used her passion for tennis at Merici too, by organising lunchtime coaching sessions. She was the manager of the Pizzy Cup in 2011/2012. Since then she continued to captain local pennant teams. Chris also represented the ACT in Australian Championships. Chris stated:  ‘My greatest tennis achievement is encouraging students to play tennis. After all, it is the game played in heaven.’ Many Merici students have benefitted from Chris’ tennis coaching and expertise over the years and are extremely grateful for this. Christine’s highlight at Merici was working with challenging students and being able to see them progress, sometimes only after a few years’ time. She enjoyed working with an amazing staff and loved being part of the Merici team.

Merici College is very fortunate to have had Chris in our lives and our College.

Eternal rest, grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God; rest in peace. Amen
