UNSW Canberra Prize for Best Female in Mathematics Thursday 8 March, 2018

Congratulations to Annalise Lennon (Year 10) and Rebecca Fergusson (Year 8) who were both awarded the UNSW Canberra Prize for Best Female in Mathematics.

The UNSW has begun a new initiative – awarding prizes to the best female Maths student in Years 8 and 9 across schools in the ACT.  The students were nominated last year by the Merici College Maths staff and today received their awards at a special presentation at ADFA today, Thursday 8 March.

We would also like to acknowledge the efforts of Hayley Browne (Year 10), Samantha Trafford (Year 10), Caitlyn Crick (Year 9) and Ashley Frater (Year 9) who were also nominated by staff and were runners up for the prize.

The guest speaker at the presentation was Ms Narelle Devine. Ms Devine gave an outstanding and inspirational address on the future place of women in IT, Digital Security, Cyber-safety and Anti-Terrorism, and the wonderful qualities that women would bring to these industries.

We would like to thank the UNSW for this wonderful initiative, as well as Robyn de Puit, Merici Maths teacher and the Maths Department for supporting the students.
