Merici Building Works Update

Auditorium refurbishments

Building work is progressing very well with the refurbishment to the Auditorium and Science Labs.

We are currently the proud owners of a very large and very deep hole in the auditorium. It is where the platform lift / orchestra pit is being installed, and will also be the means by which we can store chairs in bulk under the stage. This will free up valuable floor-space in the auditorium itself, as well as solve a number of WHS issues in the process.

The science labs are also already taking shape. With the removal of internal walls, it is opening up to be light and airy. In terms of space, we are very fortunate to have such large science labs to begin with.

The Project Control Group (PCG) comprises the builders, architects and representatives from Merici College. It meets every fortnight to discuss any project matters including progress and timeline, cost variations, and the like. The PCG also puts in place processes to manage safety and to minimise the inconvenience to teaching and learning. The effective scheduling of work by the Builder Monarch – guided by the PCG, means that so far the impact on teaching and learning has been very minimal insofar as noise or disruption to site services is concerned. And a big thank-you to our students who have observed all safety signs and kept away from the site for their own safety.

The project is currently tracking about a week ahead of schedule.
