Merici College Celebrates Their First International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Results

Authorised to deliver the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) starting in 2020, the 2021 Merici College graduating cohort is the first to make history as the first Diploma Programme students at the college.

The IB DP is a rigorous academic curriculum recognised within Australia and internationally and highly valued by tertiary institutions as excellent preparation for higher-level study success. 100% of candidates at Merici passed their Diploma and all had received offers for university prior to the results being released. To pass the Diploma, candidates had to meet a strict range of conditions and complete their 2-year study. This included, but was not limited to, passing their Extended Essay, a 4000-word independent research project, obtaining 12 points minimum in their Higher-Level subjects and meeting their Creativity, Activity and Service requirements.

Merici’s average DP result was equivalent to an ATAR of 92.2, an IB score of 35.75, which is well above the world average of 32*. Isabel Frugtniet was our top-scoring student with a total of 42 points, equivalent to an ATAR of 99.10. Isabel is one of the 877* students across Australia who achieved a score of above 40.

Academic subject results are awarded on a seven-point scale (1 is the lowest, 7 is the highest) so the maximum students can score from subjects is 42 points maximum from such subjects. Up to three bonus points can be earned from students results in their Extended Essay and their Theory of Knowledge course combined, giving a total of 45.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our first cohort. They embodied the IB Learner profile of being risk-takers as the first students through the programme here at Merici, and our staff have done amazing work in preparing them over the last two years for these rigorous exams and learning experiences. I think I was just as excited as the students to see the results cannot wait to see where their IB Diploma takes them next.” Natalie Fairfax - Head of IB at Merici.

We look forward to the IB students being part of our Alumni and inspiring and sharing their experiences with our community in the coming years.
