Girls in Maths: It just adds up!

Congratulations to our Relay First Prize winners Rosary Primary School.

On Wednesday 10 March, the staff and students at Merici College invited Year 6 students, from all around Canberra and beyond, to a Girls in Mathematics Day. Students participated in three key activities: Learning about ratios and fractions, through investigating the formula for the perfect ‘sherbet’; Puzzle fun through learning new tips that can be applied in other numerical situations; and learning the importance of team work and supporting teach other through competing in a team relay. At lunchtime students were able to choose between flying drones, learning a bit more about robotics, or playing a game of soccer with their new friends. A big thank you from all of us at Merici College to the students’ willingness to try new things and enthusiasm towards Mathematics. We hope that the friendships and the skills that girls have made during this day, further inspire these young mathematicians.

Congratulations to all our participants on their great results today. Special congratulations to our Relay First Prize recipients Rosary Primary, Second Prize winners St Thomas More's Primary, and Third Prize winners Good Shepherd Primary.

A special thank you to the Principal and staff of our visiting schools, for supporting this initiative.
