The Merici College school community welcomed parents, friends and representatives from our Colleges, Primary schools and Catholic Education at their Opening School Mass on Tuesday 26 February.

The Merici College school community welcomed parents, friends and representatives from our Colleges, Primary schools and Catholic Education at their Opening School Mass on Tuesday 26 February. The Mass was celebrated by principal celebrant Fr Josh Scott with Fr Emil Milat, Rev Simon Falk and Fr Loi Viovicente who assisted him. The Merici community embraced their 2019 College theme, Fidelitas as they celebrated their mission and vision of building a loving community that is strong in faith.

The Opening Procession represented Merici College’s past, present and future. Our 60th anniversary candle and white lilies were carried forward by ex-students Christine Callan and Faye Gluhak who were students in the opening year, 1959 and part of the first lass, completing their Intermediate Certificate in 1961 representing the schools’ past. Christine and Faye led members of our alumni representing graduating years from 1962-2003. Our current College Captains followed, representing the present, and two current Year 7 students, representing Merici’s future.  The House banners were led by the Sisters present at the Mass, Sr Karen Muir, Sr Francis Fitzpatrick, Sr Angela Jordan and Sr Rita Reilly.

We would like to thank all our students for their reverence throughout the Mass and contributing so beautifully to our singing and all the responses We would also like to thank our readers, in particular alumni member Cheryl Hamill, Class of 1992, for their contribution, our amazing Vocal Group, Maintenance and IT teams, and Hospitality students for preparing and serving refreshments to our guests.
