75th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War

We are grateful for the current Australian Defence servicemen and servicewomen and the role they play in keeping our homeland safe.

For many years on the first Wednesday of September, students from a Defence Force family have represented Merici College at a Commemoration Ceremony for The Battle of Australia at the Australian War Memorial.

Due to the ongoing threat of Covid-19 and current restrictions, the national commemorative ceremony will, regrettably, not be held this year.

Given the added significance of this year, being the 75th Anniversary of the end of the Second World War, it is important that we acknowledge and reflect on the bravery of those who served on Australia's home front, and the islands, the seas and in the skies to the north. It is a valuable reminder of the challenging times Australians faced between the years 1942 and 1945.

The conflict ended on 15 August 1945, but Australians will never forget the significant role our country played in World War II and how our contributions and sacrifices shaped us as a nation.

We are grateful for the current Australian Defence servicemen and servicewomen and the role they play in keeping our homeland safe.
