Staff Achievement

Thank you to our community for supporting our Ukraine Appeal. We have been overwhelmed with the many generous donations received and today our students thoroughly enjoyed ‘planting’ their prayer cards and messages of hope to the Ukraine community. Prayer cards will be given to the officials at the Embassy of Ukraine to pass onto the Ukrainian community. All money raised will be donated to Caritas Ukraine to provide immediate and longer-term humanitarian assistance to communities affected by the conflict in Ukraine, and to displaced Ukrainians in neighbouring countries.

This week we are proud to introduce Mrs Jen Baines, LOTE Coordinator.

Over the next few weeks we will be introducing you to our Studies Cos. Today we are pleased to introduce Mrs Jo Aboud, Science Coordinator.Jo has been at Merici for 13 years and in the role of Science Coordinator for 11 years. Jo also coordinates Digital and Information Technology. She has a strong passion for encouraging girls into science. She is committed to providing opportunities to the students to explore science in the real world and expand their personal knowledge.

Catalyst in practice

Merici College has been participating in Catalyst in 2021 as part of the System’s 56 Schools.

Renee Taylor, Deputy Principal Teaching and Learning says the College was excited by Catalyst’s “Strong focus on teacher pedagogy to improve literacy and numeracy in our students, particularly around the bold goals,” and its system-wide approach which opens the door to increased collaboration between schools as well as primary and secondary teachers.

On Tuesday 14 December, Merici College staff participating in their annual Spirituality Day.  The theme for this year was

“Be still, and Know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10)

Congratulations to Merici College students and staff on their extraordinary achievements and presentation of awards at the Actsmart Sustainability Awards 2021. We congratulate Preashika Dhakal who received Highly Commended Award in Sustainability Leadership Secondary, Felicity Maher who received Highly Commended Sustainability Leadership Award Secondary. Merici also received Highly Commended Sustainable Project Secondary for the College’s Christian Service Learning Program Year 8 Upcycling Project.  #mericisustainability #environplan

Hello, my name is Kate Friend and I’m very excited to be your new Merici College Defence School Mentor (DSM) at Merici College. This is my first role as a DSM. I have spent many years developing food products as a Food Technologist living in three different countries, plus Australia. More recently I have been a Food Technology teacher, I really enjoy seeing young people learn and grow.

We wish to congratulate Kate Durham on her successful appointment to the position of Deputy Principal Wellbeing. This position is a new Executive role that will start from the beginning of 2022.  Kate brings to the role a wealth of knowledge and over 20 years of teaching experience in both Catholic and Independent Schools. She is currently Head of Junior School at Merici and has held leadership positions in Pastoral Care and student wellbeing at Canberra Girls Grammar School and St Mary Mackillop College.
