International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme Assessment and Reporting Workshop

We would like to thank our Year 7 and 8 families for attending our workshop and participating in the activities on Monday 25 February. The workshop provided information to parents and students about how the IB trial MYP has changed our approach to assessment at Merici. The session provided an overview of the MYP philosophy, focusing on concept-based learning and how we are applying the MYP framework at our college, including an explanation of the new rubrics and how assessment tasks will be structured.

2019 Swimming Carnival Results

Merici College’s 2019 Swimming Carnival saw students compete in traditional stroke and novelty events. The carnival allowed many students who have spent very early mornings involved in local swim squads to showcase their talents and also provided an avenue for all the girls to take part in a challenging activity.

Dance Troupe at the Multicultural Festival

We would like to congratulate our students for their wonderful dance performances on Sunday 17 February at the Multicultural Festival. It was fantastic to see so many students and community members out in the crowd cheering the girls on!

If you would the Dance Troupe to attend your event, please email [email protected] for more information.

Year 7 Aspiring to Achieve Parent Workshops

On Tuesday 13 February we welcomed parents and students from Year 7 to our Aspiring to Achieve workshops. The workshops are aimed at supporting our families to a successful transition into High School at Merici. The evening commenced with a presentation by Coastlife Adventures regarding the upcoming Year 7 Camp. This was followed by a rotation of three key sessions covering:

Merici Green Tip #1 - Energy and Management of Waste

Here at Merici we will be focused on reducing our energy use this term with a view to gaining our Energy Accreditation from ACTsmart Schools.  This means switching off appliances including lights and air conditioners when leaving a room and running air conditioning at sensible temperatures. For example, if it is 35 degrees outside, 26 degrees would be a good temperature to set your cooling systems.
