Merici College Green Tip #12 - International Compost Awareness Week

This week is International Compost Awareness Week.

It is a week of activities and events to improve awareness of the importance of compost as a valuable organic resource.

Composting reduces carbon and methane pollution while regenerating the soil, benefitting water sources,

and fostering food security into the future.

The organic materials that can be composted include yard trimmings, leaves, mulch, grass clippings,

some paper products, and food scraps such as raw and cooked fruits,

Mrs Ward was a dedicated and valued teacher at Merici College from 1988 to 2003 and touched the lives of many students and staff. Our sincere condolences to the Ward and Praks families. May perpetual life shine upon her and may she rest in love.

Merici College Green Tip #10 - Thursday April 22 is International Mother Earth Day.

This is different to World Environment Day held in June and recognises that Earth and its ecosystems are our home,

and it is essential to achieve harmony with biodiversity, animals and the Earth's living, life supporting systems.

From the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres:

When Mother Earth sends us a message …

Mother Earth is clearly urging a call to action. Nature is suffering. Oceans filling with plastic and turning more acidic.
