On Friday 31 May, College staff and students celebrated the Feast Day of Saint Angela Merici. A special College community Mass was also held, celebrated by Fr Emil Milat and Fr Josh Scott. As this year marks 60 years since the beginning of the College, the Mass reflected on the College’s past, present and future journey from Canberra Catholic Girls’ High School in 1959, to Merici College in 2019 and beyond, with a special focus on the six Houses and the Founding Orders.
We would like to thank our Merici community for coming along to our Community BBQ on Thursday 21 March. The BBQ was a great opportunity for our whole community to gather, parents to meet PC Teachers and for us to welcome new families to the College. Our six individual Houses were vibrant in their presence with House Coordinators, Pastoral Care Teachers and Captains meeting and greeting new families and welcoming them to our Merici family.
Congratulations to our Year 10 students who celebrated their academic achievements and the end of Year 10 on Thursday 6 December at a special ceremony.
Congratulations to our Year 12 students on their graduation and academic achievements. We would like to thank the students for their valuable contribution to the life of Merici College and we pray that God richly blesses them as you continue your journey through life.
We would like to thank all our Year 10 students for having a great time at the Year 10 Social last Friday night. We would also like to thank our House Coordinators Vicki Meyers, Liza Laird and Louisa Barnsley for all their hard work in organising this event. Our sincere thanks are also extended to our Hospitality students and staff who catered for this event.
At the conclusion of Mass, Merici’s school captains, Olivia Straker and Bronte Alexander, coordinated a whole school Trivia game with a twist! The students were challenged to learn more about the history of Merici College through the completion of quizzes and going to specific checkpoints to undertake team building activities in order to complete the challenge. The celebrations continued with a special fiesta afternoon with activities run by each House to raise funds for their respective charities.
St Angela Merici Day Mass, Friday 1 June. May we all continue to be inspired by the words and actions of St Angela Merici, to “challenge people to love life, have hope, be faithful and build futures more wondrous than you dare to dream”.
