#MericiMoment Wall of Words – Samantha Bruce (Class of 2011)

At Merici, the motto 'Dare to Dream' really stuck with me. It pushed me to dream big and pursue those dreams. Merici was where I discovered my passion for creative media/tv/film (a heavily male-dominated industry).

At Merici, the motto 'Dare to Dream' really stuck with me. It pushed me to dream big and pursue those dreams. Merici was where I discovered my passion for creative media/tv/film (a heavily male-dominated industry). Looking back on those media classes when I was 17/18years old, I wouldn't have guessed that I would become one of the youngest Television Directors for one of the major networks in the country.

Since graduating Merici in 2011, I went on to study a Bachelor of Media Arts and Production (Film and Television) at the University of Canberra. During my studies, I completed an internship in India and worked in the Bollywood studios working on soap opera sets and film sets. After graduating with my degree, I started working in the television industry as a DA (Director's Assistant). I am now the manager of the television studio crews/the studios/broadcast operations and simultaneously hold the position of Head Television Director at the Prime7 Television Network. There I direct news bulletins across NSW, VIC and WA. These bulletins are currently ranked as the number 1 news bulletins across all of our broadcasting regions. I direct up to 7, half hour news bulletins a day, as well as weather and news updates, a weekly AFL segment as well as promos/ads. Alongside my full-time job as a TV Director, I am a co-founder of a live-streaming company that broadcasts live-sports including home games for the ABL (Australian Baseball League), AIHL (Australian Ice-Hockey League), Basketball ACT as well as Hockey ACT. These broadcasts sometimes also air on FOX, Kayo and NITV. I am also an award winning short film director/VFX artist/graphics artist.  In 2019, my film won 3 awards in the 'Lights, Canberra, Action' Film Festival including, Best Screenplay, Best Use of Theme and Best Visual Effects/Animation. I have also worked on film projects alongside the European Union, the Portuguese Embassy with upcoming projects with the Belgium embassy and Rio Tinto.
