Sustainability at Merici
The Gouldian Finch is native to Australia and listed as a threatened species.

National Threatened Species Day is a day of action for almost 2000 Australian plant and animal species that are listed as 'threatened'.
Other Australian threatened species include the Numbat, Mountain pygmy-possum, Regent Honey Eater, Orange-bellied parrot, Eastern Quoll, Woylie, Eastern Curlew, Black-flanked Rock-wallaby, and the Purple-crowned Fairy-wren.
We can and must learn from history and act by:
- Restoring native vegetation and removing invasive species - we are doing this at Merici with our biodiversity restoration project.
- Choosing sustainably grown, deforestation-free produce, or better yet, growing your own fresh produce at home, so you can minimise the impact of farming on threatened species habitat.
- Keeping cats indoors: Australian research shows that cats are a leading cause of at least 20, or two-thirds, of our mammal extinctions over the last 200 years.
